I know what it feels like to move your magic into someone else's house.
Literally.
A few years ago I moved into my partner's home, and without even noticing it I slowly began to organize my life around someone else's structure.
Their work mattered more and their rhythms shaped the space. If I could tell something was going to push their comfort zone, even if I really wanted it, I compromised my desire before daring to voice it.
Prior to this I had earned 8 million dollars through leading transformational retreats from a place of deep magic. And it was like I put the brakes on all of my momentum.
Because as I made my magic smaller to fit in the acceptable spaces in our life together, I began to soften my beliefs and my leadership in my work.
I was less willing to shine. I kept my magic contained to my basement office until I hardly believed I was magical anymore – and I didn't even realize it.
And this is not just a personal story.
For generations, women have been made to hide their magic.
The memories of witch burnings live in our fields, and, more recently, the systematic discrediting of female layhealers by a burgeoning medical industry directly affects how acceptable we feel as those gifted with seeing and knowing.
In my family, boys were clearly favored over girls which was confusing and distressing to my magical and capable little self. Maybe you relate?
So of course we suppressed what makes us powerful — in traditional or acceptable careers (I'm a recovering engineer!), in our relationships, and even in the place we call home.
And if we're not alert we'll bring that same suppression and compartmentalization into our businesses.
And the world of bro-marketing systems makes this oh-so-easy to do!
